President's Letter
It is hard to believe we are already getting ready for our September show!
The kids are getting ready to head back to school. Summer is practically over. The board is already diligently working on your end of the year banquet to be held at The Country Club of Lansing, November 1st. Tickets will be available at EMAA 4. Before we know it the trees will be changing!
The Shiawassee show was a small one but we had fun. The informative dinner was an awesome activity. I want to thank Zara Wright again for coordinating that for our members. Hopefully we will have that opportunity again in the future. Also Taylor DeBlair did great with the pop up shopping. I'm sure everyone enjoyed the dunk tank and inflatable activities. Thanks Lola Mattewson for those activities.
That being said, I would like to invite our members to reach out and give ideas to make our July show attendance better. We have some options for different dates at other facilities. Be ready for a Facebook survey in the next few weeks.
As always any member can reach out to our board through the website links. I can't wait to see everyone in Mason in a few weeks!

From the Points Committee
Well, the June and July shows came and went quickly, so now we can catch our breath for a minute before the September show!
We will have a printout at the September show of results and points earned so far this year, available for you to review. Please take some time over the weekend to take a look and make note of any corrections that need to be made. (placings, horse name, exhibitor name, spelling, etc.) This helps us out when it comes time for calculating year end awards for the banquet.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Weekend High Point at our final show! This is awarded at multiple age levels and presented at the year end banquet.
From the Dressage Ring
Hope you all are having a great show season so far! It’s been great to see so many of our exhibitors stepping up to the next level and doing so well! As I score the tests, it is wonderful to see such high scores and encouraging comments by our judges.
A reminder that each test has a recommended time frame to ride that particular test, for both large and small arenas. Next time you practice your test, time yourself to ensure you are covering ground at a recommended pace.
Also, don’t forget that Dressage Suitability is a 2-year max for the horse. For the novice combo classes, it is a 2-year max for that horse/rider combo for that particular test.
Sign up for the dressage high score at our final show! It is awarded at the banquet at each level of tests.
Entries were quite a bit down at our July show, but it was nice to be able to offer coaching sessions with our judge, Bonnie Hazen. The feedback was positive that it was very beneficial, so we will do this again when time permits.
